59% of Physicians Believe Quality of Medicine Will Decline in the Next 5 Years

Most physicians anticipate a decline in the quality of medicine over the next five years, according to the “2013 Physician Sentiment Index,” by Epocrates and athenahealth.

The report includes responses from 1,200 physicians, 30 percent of whom are primary care physicians and 76 percent of whom are specialists.

 

When asked about their expectations regarding the quality of medicine in the next five years, respondents reported the following:

 

1. Improve — 17 percent
2. Remain Unchanged — 24 percent
3. Decline — 59 percent
