Gastonia, N.C.-based Carolina Orthopedics and Sports Medicine joined New Bern, N.C.-based CarolinaEast Health System, The Sun-Journal reported Jan. 13.
COSM was founded in 2007 when New Bern Orthopedic Associates and East Carolina Orthopedics merged, the report said.
"Carolina Orthopedic and Sports Medicine physicians have cared for patients in more than one-third of the counties in North Carolina," Michael Smith, president and CEO of CarolinaEast Health System said in the report. "By integrating COSM, CarolinaEast can extend these boundaries to care for patients all over the state who want and deserve world-class care."
