Hospital for Special Surgery gifted $35M for spine, orthopedic tower

Practice Management

The Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, a nonprofit organization, has donated $35 million to New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery for the development of a 12-story tower that will specialize in spine surgery and joint replacement.

Four things to know:

1. The 100,000-square-foot facility will be adjacent to the main HSS hospital in New York City.

2. The tower will include three private inpatient floors, multidisciplinary medical teams and on-site imaging. Construction is set to begin this year, according to a March 16 news release.

3. In January 2020, through a partnership with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, HSS opened its first facility in Florida — a 60,000-square-foot hospital in West Palm Beach.

4. HSS has been ranked No. 1 in orthopedics for 11 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report.
