Spanning 130,050 square feet, the Barrow Neuroplex is designed to enhance patient convenience and experience with easier access to physicians, labs, imaging and preadmission care.

The facility comprises outpatient clinics such as neurosurgical, neuro-oncology  and neuro-endocrinology as well as the institute’s stroke center, according to an April 19 news release from the institute and St. Joseph’s. An ASC is also being developed.

“When people travel across the world to receive care, we want them to have an amazing patient experience that they can’t stop talking about,” Barrow Neurological Institute President and CEO Michael Lawton said. “By bringing together coordinated care under one roof, we are transforming the way patients access their doctors and are providing them with the very best patient experience.”

Barrow Neuroplex has also allowed for a 50 percent expansion in research space, which will be dedicated to studying diseases of the brain and spine.

Founded in 1962, the institute has grown into the world’s largest center for neurosurgical training, and its neurosurgeons perform more brain surgeries a year than any other facility in the U.S., according to the news release.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
