5 Statistics on Physician Use of Digital Technology

Two in five U.S. physicians agree that using digital technology to communicate with patients will improve patient outcomes, according to the “Taking the Pulse U.S. 2014” study by Manhattan Research, a part of Decision Resources Group.

Taking the Pulse U.S. 2014” surveyed 3,066 practicing physicians.

 

Key findings from the report include:

 

•    More than one-third of physicians said they had been evaluated or rewarded based on metrics measuring cost of treatment, patient outcomes or referrals over the past year.
•    Forty-seven percent of smartphone owners had shown patients images or videos on their devices.
•    More than one-third of physicians had recommended that patients use health apps in the past year.
•    While video consults are still relatively rare, nearly one-quarter of physicians said that they or their teams had communicated with patients through a patient portal over the past year.
