5 Findings on Orthopedic Surgeon Occupational Injury

While orthopedic surgeons treat many people injured on the job, they must also be careful to avoid workplace injuries, according to an article in AAOS Now.

The article, based on a Journal of Bone and Joint Review study, assessed work-related injuries among orthopedic surgeons in Tennessee. Around 10 percent of respondents missed work because of workplace injuries and 23 percent reported they didn’t have access to institutional resources to support their recovery.

 

Findings also included:

 

•    25 percent of injuries were to the hand
•    19 percent of the injuries were low back pain
•    10 percent of the injuries were neck pain
•    Only 25 percent reported an injury to their institution
•    The likelihood of injury increased with time
