HSS resumes elective surgeries

Practice Management

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery received approval from the state of New York to resume elective surgical procedures.

The hospital suspended elective surgical procedures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move is the latest in several developments in the state. While hospitals in most counties were allowed to restart elective procedures a month ago, the state only recently allowed surgery centers to restart procedures. New York is taking a conservative approach to restarting elective surgical programs following the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

HSS representative Monique Irons commented on the development, saying, "This expands the responsible care, with the famously rigorous infection control protocols that have helped earn our U.S. [News & World Report] No. 1 ranking in orthopedics for 10 consecutive years. Welcome back to moving forward."
