Florida Orthopaedic Institute temporarily closes all locations after physician tests positive for COVID-19

Practice Management

Florida Orthopaedic Institute temporarily closed all of its offices and surgery centers March 20 after one of its physicians tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

The physician, who worked at the South Tampa and North Tampa/Temple Terrace locations, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 19 and is recovering under self-quarantine.

FOI is working with Hillsborough County Health Department to ensure all locations are properly cleaned and sanitized.

The news comes two weeks after FOI merged with Clearwater, Fla.-based OrthoCare Florida to become the largest orthopedic provider in the state and the 13th largest in the country.

The orthopedic group now consists of 150 providers and 17 locations across the Tampa Bay Area.
