Connecticut hospital hopes to build 3 orthopedic ORs for $26.2M — 3 insights

Meridian, Conn.-based MidState Medical Center wants to expand its orthopedic presence by adding three new operating rooms for $26.2 million, Hartford Business reports.

What you should know:

1. MidState wants to expand to meet rising orthopedic surgery demand. MidState’s orthopedic caseload increased from 1,327 cases in 2016 to a projected 4,163 cases in 2019.

2. If the request is approved by the state's Office of Health Strategy, MidState would have a total of 14 operating rooms.

3. MidState wrote in its certificate of need application, "The demand for operating room time is expected to significantly increase over the next 12-18 months as surgeons are on-boarded and their surgical volume ramps up."
