4 Statistics on Actively Licensed US Physicians by Age Group

 
Most actively licensed physicians were older the age of 60 years in the United States and the District of Columbia in 2012, according to “A Census of Actively Licensed Physicians in the United States, 2012” published in the Journal of Medical Regulation.

The report includes data received from state medical boards in 2012 by the Federation of State Medical Boards. The following data was taken from the 2012 FSMB Census of Licensed Physicians.

 
Here are the percentages of physicians with active licenses in the country in 2012, by age group:

 

•    Younger than 40 years — 22.2 percent
•    40 to 49 years — 24.6 percent
•    50 to 59 years — 24.5 percent
•    Older than 60 years — 26.3 percent
