Practice Management

Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute, the largest orthopedic group in Northwest Indiana, aligned with Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Health.

Here's what you need to know:

1. Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute has been in Porter County, Ind., for 50 years and has expanded its service area to Lake and La Porte counties in recent years. The group includes 16 orthopedic surgeons, three pain management physicians, a rheumatologist, five podiatrists, a clinical psychologist and 16 advanced practice providers.

2. Franciscan Health has five hospitals in Lake, Porter and La Porte counties. Franciscan Health is one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the Midwest with 14 hospital campuses and approximately 20,000 employees.

3. Franciscan Health hopes not to leave the orthopedic care services area to Chicago-based hospitals, so it has entered into a professional services and co-management agreement with the largest orthopedic group in Northwest Indiana as an adjunct to the Franciscan Physician Network of over 275 physicians.

4. Construction is underway for a new Franciscan Health hospital in Michigan City, Ind., which will be completed in late 2018.
