39% of Malpractice Lawsuits Took Up To 2 Years to Conclude

For 39 percent of physicians who faced a malpractice lawsuit, the entire lawsuit process lasted up to two years, according to Medscape’s Malpractice Report, released in 2013.

Researchers polled 3,480 U.S. physicians from across 25 specialty areas for the survey.

When asked how long the entire lawsuit process took to conclude, respondents reported the following:

•    Less than a year — 22 percent of respondents
•    Up to two years — 39 percent of respondents
•    Three to five years — 28 percent of respondents
•    More than five years — 11 percent of respondents
