Of the data reported, orthopedic surgeons in Los Angeles receive the largest bonuses of $33,000 on average, which is $1,000 more than the reported bonuses in San Francisco. The smallest reported bonuses were in Chicago and Miami, at $5,000 each. Other cities in the report included Atlanta ($20,000), Boston ($20,000) and New York City ($12,208).
By years of experience
Orthopedic surgeons who have less than one year of experience receive an average bonus of $10,000, according to the report. Surgeons with one to four years of experience receive an average bonus of $13,650, and those with five to nine years of experience received an average bonus of $20,608. Surgeons with 10 to 19 years of experience received the largest bonus, $24,861 on average, which is $2,861 more than orthopedic surgeons with 20 years or more of experience.
By employment status
Orthopedic surgeons working at a physician’s office or private practice reportedly receive an average bonus of $24,907, which is $10,000 more than orthopedic surgeons at hospitals, who receive an average bonus of $14,855. Orthopedic surgeons practicing ambulatory surgery centers receive an average bonus of $20,000, according to the report.
