In general, hospital employment compensated higher than physician practices, however physician partners focused on hip and joint surgery received $61,977 more than those employed at hospitals. Additionally, in almost every case, physician partners and shareholders in a practice received higher compensation than non-shareholders. However, it was more profitable for spine surgeons to be non-shareholders in a practice, as they received $77,319 more on average than spine surgeon shareholders.
