Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Brian Parsley of Foundation Surgical Hospital in Houston

Brian Parsley, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Foundation Surgical Hospital in Houston, was recently appointed Chairman of the Board for the Houston Haiti Recover Initiative. Along with his colleagues, Dr. Parsley is leading a joint initiative with HHRI to develop a biomedical training and repair project in Haiti that will promote vocational training and economic enterprise.

“I will assist in any way possible to have the greatest impact on improving the quality of life and return to functionality for those survivors of this terrible disaster,” said Dr. Parsley in a news release. He has made more than 30 medical mission trips to Guatemala and provided pro bono total hip replacements as well as other procedures to patients at Foundation Surgical Hospital.

Dr. Parsley has a professional interest in diagnosing and treating arthritis. He performs unicompartmental knee replacements as well as minimally invasive procedures for the hip and knee. He was instrumental in the development of the joint replacement program at Christus St. Joseph Hospital in Houston.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Parsley was recently elected third vice president by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is the acting chief of the division of adult reconstruction and total joint arthroplasty and the director of the adult reconstruction fellowship program for Baylor College of Medicine.

During his career, Dr. Parsley has served on many other administrative boards, including The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Sciences and Faith in Practice. He is a member of The Arthritis Foundation, The Harris County Medical Society and The Houston Orthopaedic Society, all based in Houston.

Dr. Parsley also performed hip surgery on gold medal gymnast Mary Lou Retton, utilizing Biomet’s M2a-Magnum large metal articulation system and Taperloc hip system. The implant was designed to mimic the natural anatomy.

Dr. Parsley earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. His additional training includes a fellowship at the Anderson Research Institute in Arlington, Va., where he specialized in joint replacement arthroplasty.
