Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Richard Rothman of Rothman Institute in Philadelphia

Richard Rothman, MD, founder of Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, has experienced success in growing his orthopedic practice to encompass 14 locations in the Delaware Valley area over the past few years. He originally founded Rothman Institute in 1970 with the goal of using the most advanced technology available to treat his patients.

Rothman Institute recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The practice has treated more than two million patients, provided more than 100,000 joint replacements and performed more than 30,000 spine surgeries.

"What an honor it is to have served the region for so long," Dr. Rothman said in a practice news release. "The Institute is a testament [to] what can be accomplished when you have the finest in your field working collaboratively together — as a real team."

During his career, Dr. Rothman has published 224 original research papers and 15 orthopedic textbooks and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Arthroplasty. He is also responsible for developing the Accolade total hip system.

Dr. Rothman is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee and the American College of Surgeons. He is also the James Edwards Professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Rothman earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
