Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Stephen H. Hochschuler of Texas Back Institute

Stephen H. Hochschuler, MD, the co-founder of Texas Back Institute, has been a leader in spine surgery for several years. In the past, he has served as a director for Alphatech Spine and serves as the chairman of the scientific advisory board for Forbes magazine.

Dr. Hochschuler is also on the board of directors of SpineMark and is founder of the spine division of the Veterans Administration of Dallas, Texas. He is a founding member of several other spine organizations, including the American Board of Spine Surgery and the Spine Arthroplasty Society, where he also serves as president.

"I primarily deal with lumbar spinal problems," said Dr. Hochschuler on his webpage. "I often am referred complex or failed spinal procedures for evaluation and treatment."

In addition to his practice, Dr. Hochschuler has published several research papers in international spine journals. He has earned the George Kozmetsky Distinguished Achievement Award from the Society for Design and Process Science and the Air Force Commendation Award. He serves as a strategic advisor for BioAssets Development and a member of the North American Spine Society.

Dr. Hochschuler earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He also spent time in the United States Air Force as a captain and major.
