Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Vincent Arlet of the University of Virginia School of Medicine

Vincent Arlet, MD, a spine surgeon and professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, has a special interest in treating patients with scoliosis. He recently treated a patient using a new database he created, Scolisoft, to show clinical pictures of different types of spine curvatures.

"There is a lack of evidence-based information about treatment and outcomes for scoliosis," said Dr. Arlet in a Scolisoft news release. Physicians using Scolisoft now have a resource where "you can match with five identical cases in the database and you can see clearly what the best course of treatment was for that particular curvature."

Scolisoft is the largest international, online, spinal deformity database and the only database carrying clinical photographs of surgical patients taken before and after surgery. The database was designed to serve as a guide to help surgeons make decisions about the types of care individual patients need.

Dr. Arlet's areas of expertise include spinal deformity surgery, congenital malformation, and minimally invasive solutions for spine surgery. His practice reaches far beyond his North American patients, as he has visited Trinadad and Tobago with a team of university physicians.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Arlet is the editor of the European Spine Journal and has published several articles on his research. He is currently conducting clinical trials on the treatment of geriatric odontoid fractures and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Dr. Arlet earned his medical degree from Medical School Paris V University and completed his residency at France University of Paris. His additional training includes pediatric and adult orthopedic surgery residencies in Paris. He has previously served as the director of the spine division and spine fellowship program at McGill University in Quebec, Canada.
