Referred to as "soccer savior" by one of his patients, Tal S. David, MD, a physician with Arthroscopy & Orthopedic Sports Medicine Associates in San Diego, has proven his leadership among orthopedic surgeons by performing ACL reconstructions using the AperFix system. In a story published by the Del Mar Times, Dr. David spoke about the advantages to using the new minimally invasive technology during knee procedures.

"[The AperFix system] is a more anatomic way to fix the ACL; it recreates it in the most natural form," said Dr. David in the report. The AperFix system includes material for strengthening the fixation and stability for each individual patient. For athletes, the technology allows more aggressive rehabilitation early in the process.

"I think [Dr. David] is amazing," said his patient in the report. "I wouldn't be able to walk properly without him. He taught me a lot about the knee, how it works and how I can keep it healthy."

In addition to treating his patients, Dr. David is a clinical instructor in the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego, and serves on the North American board of editors for Orthopedics. Dr. David is a team physician for the San Diego Chargers and has successfully performed surgeries using the AperFix system on Chargers players.

Dr. David is a recipient of San Diego magazine's "Top Doctor" award for his work in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Dr. David earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics in New Orleans. His additional training includes a sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
