Orthopedic and Spine Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Christopher T. Donaldson of Western Pennsylvania Orthopedic & Sports Medicine

After committing years to researching and practicing shoulder arthroscopy, Christopher T. Donaldson, a physician with Western Pennsylvania Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, located in Johnstown, recently shared his expertise as an associate instructor to the Arthroscopy Association of North America shoulder arthroscopy master's course at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago.

"Returning people to the lifestyle they love and restoring their function is very rewarding, whether it's a serious athlete or a leisurely sportsman," said Dr. Donaldson in a Western Pennsylvania Orthopedic & Sports Medicine news release. "My training has given me experience in treating both, using the latest surgical techniques."

Dr. Donaldson has expertise in knee ligament injuries, shoulder instability and rotator cuff repairs as well as shoulder and knee cartilage injuries. He stays abreast of the latest technology in this area through his award-winning research, which he has published in several peer-reviewed journals. In addition to treating his patients, Dr. Donaldson serves as team physician for St. Francis University and orthopedic consultant for the Johnstown Chiefs minor league hockey team and University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown teams.

Among his several accomplishments, Dr. Donaldson was recently elected to the emerging leader program with the American Orthopaedic Association and is founder of the Big 10 Orthopaedic Sports Fellow Society, where he serves on the board of directors.

Dr. Donaldson earned his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Penn., and completed a year of orthopedic research at the University of Maryland in College Park. His additional training includes a sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction fellowship at Ohio State University in Columbus and orthopedic surgery training at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
