Spine device manufacturer Joimax received FDA approval Aug. 6 for Intracs, an electromagnetic navigation tracking and control system for spine surgery.

Three things to know:

1. The system enables spine cases to be performed with minimal X-ray control, reducing radiation exposure for patients and staff.

2. Instruments and scopes can be tracked through sensors, which expands endoscopic indications, improves safety and flattens the learning curve, according to Joimax.

3. Intracs tracks instruments directly at the tip, so bending of needles or other instruments does not affect the accuracy of the navigation.
