Anika Therapeutics' CEO dies unexpectedly, board looks for immediate replacement

Joseph Darling, president and CEO of Anika Therapeutics, died Jan. 29. He was 62 years old.

Anika's board of directors is beginning an immediate search for a new CEO.

In the meantime, an office of the president has been established to provide leadership and oversight of day-to-day operations.

Sylvia Cheung, CFO, James Loerop, executive vice president of business development and strategic planning, and Thomas Finnerty, executive vice president of human resources, will occupy the temporary office of the president.

Mr. Darling joined Anika as president in 2017 and was appointed CEO in 2018.

He had more than 21 years of experience in executive management and leadership roles, according to his LinkedIn profile, including positions at Smith+Nephew, Arthrosurface, Baxter Healthcare and Conmed.
