Spinal Tech

With new CE Mark approval, Medtronic is planning the European launch of its Percept PC Neurostimulator Deep Brain Stimulation system, the company announced Jan. 9.

Five things to know:

1. The European Union approved Medtronic's Percept PC neurostimulator to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, primary dystonia, epilepsy and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

2. The neurostimulator will be available in Western Europe beginning Jan. 15. Medtronic will launch the product in other regions based on local regulations.

3. Physicians using the system can detect and record patient-specific brain signals. The system's BrainSense technology links these signals to patient-reported symptoms or side effects, facilitating personalized, data-driven neurostimulation treatment.

4. Other features of the Percept PC Deep Brain Stimulation system include low pulse width and improved battery life compared to Medtronic's Activa PC neurostimulator. Percept PC is built to accommodate future software upgrades.

5. The product is currently under FDA review.
