Spinal Tech

Medicrea gained seven key patents for its UNiD Adaptive Spine Intelligence proprietary software platform from the U.S. Patent Office, the company announced Jan. 6.

Five insights:

1. Medicrea now has 13 U.S.-issued patents for its UNiD technology. It plans to pursue additional patents.

2. The newly issued U.S. patents "create strong barriers to entry for competitors" and strengthen Medicrea's market position, CEO and founder Denys Sournac said in a press release.

3. The company's UNiD ASI offerings are designed to transform spinal surgery through artificial intelligence, predictive modeling and customized implants.

4. Medicrea says its platform can improve clinical and surgical workflow, increase reproducibility, boost surgical outcomes and help surgeons plan cases preoperatively.

5. More than 5,000 cases have been performed using the UNiD ASI technology platform, all with patient-specific implants.
