Centinel Spine's prodisc L lumbar total disc replacement celebrated its 18th year of clinical usage.

Four things to know:

1. Prodisc L was first implanted in the U.S. during simultaneous investigational device exemption studies for one- and two-level use.

2. Jack Zigler, MD, performed the first implantation at Plano-based Texas Back Institute on Oct. 3, 2001.

3. The FDA approved the prodisc L following clinical data in 2006.

4. Centinel Spine's prodisc portfolio now consists of an anterior and anterior lateral approach lumbar disc replacement, as well as four cervical discs.
