Implanet reported successful results in the first spine surgeries using JAZZ Cap in the U.S.

Three things to know:

1. The first procedures were successfully performed by fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon Chi Lim, MD, of Carolina Orthopaedic & Neurological Associates in Spartanburg, S.C.

2. JAZZ Cap is utilized to secure screws in low quality bone, which is a factor in 10 percent to 30 percent of vertebral fusion cases in adult patients, according to the 2015 Health Advances Study.

3. The procedure received 510(k) FDA clearance in March and the company is shooting for full market release in September, with a presentation at the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting in Chicago.
