The Medicrea Group, an artificial intelligence-focused spinal surgery company, hosted the second annual Medicrea Artificial Intelligence and Analytics meeting in New York from April 26-27.
Three things to know:
1. The MAIA group is a partnership between surgeons and the industry that focuses on AI's role in the treatment of complex spinal deformities.
2. The firm demonstrated the improvements made to its proprietary UNiD Adaptive Spine Intelligence technology, which is a device that helps surgeons achieve more precise preoperative planning to improve patient outcomes.
3. The meeting was chaired by Chris Ames, MD, director of spinal tumor and spinal deformity surgery at University of California San Francisco Medical Center, Vedat Deviren, MD, professor of orthopedic surgery at the UCSF Spine Center, and co-chaired by Evalina Burger, MD, professor and vice chair of orthopedics at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.
Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, N.Y., Vijay Yanamadala, MD, noted the AI advancements and the potential impact it may have on spine surgery planning.
"The system digests scientific data to generate intelligent surgical planning through machine learning while simultaneously allowing you to perform detailed, custom analyses of your cases and manage the entire workflow from start to finish," said Dr. Yanamadala.
