Independent general surgeon William Norwood, MD, performed his 5,000th da Vinci robotic surgery April 9, the Bossier Press reports.
What you should know:
1. Dr. Norwood completed the surgery at Shreveport, La.-based Willis-Knighton Medical Center.
2. Intuitive Surgical celebrated Dr. Norwood, saying he performed the most da Vinci procedures of any general surgeon in the world.
3. Dr. Norwood is also a bariatric and laparoscopic surgeon.
4. He performed his first da Vinci procedure in November 2009.
