Spinal Tech

St. Mary Mercy Livonia (Mich.) became the state's first hospital to offer the Mazor X Robotic Guidance Platform.

Three details:

1. The 304-bed hospital introduced the surgical device in March and expects it will improve patient outcomes.

2. The platform enables spine surgeons to view a computed tomography-based 3D simulation of the patient's spine before entering the OR.

3. It also provides data for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance.

"With this tool, we receive a greater amount of preoperative information on each patient, have an improved visual field of the patient's spine before and during surgery and can operate with a greater degree of confidence and precision," said Hazem Eltahawy, MD, the hospital's neurological surgery chief.
