Intuitive Surgical's single-port da Vinci SP surgical system received FDA 510(k) clearance for transoral otolaryngology procedures.
Three details:
1. The SP system was cleared for adult tonsil removal and tongue base resection procedures.
2. The da Vinci SP is designed to give surgeons deep and narrow access to body tissue through a single, small incision or natural orifice. It includes three wristed instruments and a fully wristed 3D camera.
3. In May 2018, the FDA approved the SP system for urology procedures. Intuitive shipped 15 da Vinci SP systems in 2018 after receiving the clearance.
