ZygoFix begins human clinical trial of spinal facet joint fixation system: 4 things to know

Spinal Tech

ZygoFix is ramping up its human clinical study of its zLOCK spinal facet joint fixation system.

Here are four things to know:

1. In the first case, a 67-year-old patient underwent a spinal fusion procedure using the zLOCK system. The patient suffered from back and leg pain.

2. After the fusion with the zLOCK system the patient's Visual Analog Scale score dropped from 9 preoperatively to 1 postoperatively. Six-months postoperative, the patient's VAS score was zero.

3. ZygoFix designed the implant as a miniature facet fusion cage. The implant combines rigid and flexible elements to withstand loads and accommodate all anatomies.

4. Attila Schwarcz, vice chairman of spine surgery at the University of Pecs in Hungary, is the principal investigator in the zLOCK study.
