Intelligent Implants uses electric fields to spur bone growth in high-risk spinal fusion patients, Chron Business reports.

Here are three things to know about the company:

1. Intelligent Implants opened a research and development office at Houston-based Texas Medical Center.

2. The startup received office space at the Johnson & Johnson Innovation JLABS incubator, business growth assistance from the TMCx accelerator program, and access to a machine shop and engineers at the Center for Device Innovation as support.

3. Intelligent Implants develops the SmartFuse cage, which is implanted between the vertebrae of high-risk patients.
