KFx Medical filed a lawsuit against Stryker, alleging patent infringement for the knotless double row rotator cuff repair procedure.

Here are five things to know:

1. KFx previously defended the patents for this procedure against similar Arthrex technology, and Arthrex paid more than $35 million in damages and interest for the infringement in 2016. Now, the company alleges Stryker is also infringing on its patent for the double row fixation.

2. KFx has five agreements that license the patents to other medical devices companies, which gives the right to promote the use of products and techniques for the knotless double row rotator cuff repair.

3. Founded in 2003, the privately held KFx Medical develops products for tissue fixation in orthopedic procedures.

4. In March, KFx entered into a licensing agreement with Wright Medical Technology for the knotless double row rotator cuff repair, the fourth agreement of its kind. Under the agreement, Wright was granted the license to promote the use of Wright products and techniques for the procedure, and both companies dismissed related pending litigation between the parties.
