Dr. Alexis Waguespack performs surgery with Mobi-C Cervical Disc: 3 insights

Spinal Tech

Alexis Waguespack, MD, of New Orleans-based Spinecare Medical Group, performed a two-level cervical disc replacement procedure using the Mobi-C Cervical Disc.

Here are three things to know:

1. The Mobi-C Cervical Disc is a motion-sparing technology designed to replace diseased discs and provide an alternative to fusion.

2. Mobi-C received FDA approval in 2013, becoming the first cervical disc to be approved at one- and two-levels. Five-year FDA clinical trial results found two-level cervical disc replacement patients who received Mobi-C experienced lower rates of revision surgeries and returned to activity three weeks earlier than fusion patients.

3. Dr. Waguespack is an orthopedic spine surgeon who received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She underwent spine fellowship training at the San Francisco Spine Institute.

"For the first time, I am able to offer to many of my patients who suffer from two-level cervical disease a superior treatment option to traditional cervical spine fusion that maintains motion," said Dr. Waguespack in a statement.
