Sen. Todd Young calls on President Trump, Congress to end medical device tax — 6 insights

U.S. Sen. Todd Young, R-Ind., sent a letter to President Donald Trump asking him to push Congress to repeal the medical device tax.

 1. “Every day this tax remains, we continue to slow medical advancements and hinder patient care, job creation and investments,” Mr. Young wrote in the letter. “Patients depend on cutting edge, life-saving technologies in order to live longer, healthier lives.”

2. The U.S. House of Representatives could vote on a medical device tax repeal bill early this week.

3. The 2.4 percent tax on medical devices was introduced as part of the ACAto help pay for the law’s insurance expansion.

4. The tax applies to devices such as pacemakers, surgical gloves and hospital beds.

5. Politicians on both sides of the aisle support repealing the tax.

6. Mr. Young received the third most campaign contributions from medical device makers, according to OpenSecrets.org.
