Dr. Andrew Rhea performs 1st spine cases with Power T Handle: 5 things to know

Andrew Rhea, MD, performed the first spine surgery cases using Kevin Cahill's, MD, PhD, Power T Handle device, Virtual-Strategy Magazine reports.

Here are five things to know:

1. The Power T Handle is designed to merge power and tactile feel in spinal and other surgical procedures.

2. The cordless device transitions from a manual handle to a low-speed, high-torque power driver while preserving the manual capabilities of traditional T-handles that attach to orthopedic instruments.

3. The single-use device is provided in a sterile package for immediate use.

4. Andrew Rhea, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Florence (S.C.) Neurosurgery and Spine Center and the chief of staff at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

5. Dr. Cahill is the president and founder of Power T Handle. He and a team of medical device engineers developed the spine device.
