U.S. District Judge William H. Walls (N.J.) awarded Zimmer Biomet $13.3 million in attorneys' fees and more than $500,000 in costs after a polymer-patent dispute with Howmedica Osteotonics led to the invalidation of four Howmedica patents, Law360 reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. Judge Walls awarded the fees April 20 and unsealed the order on those figures May 14. The opinion on the fees is not yet public.

2. Howmedica Osteotonics is a Stryker subsidiary.

3. This is not the first patent spat between Zimmer Biomet and Stryker; in 2017, U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker in Grand Rapids, Mich., found in favor of Stryker in a patent infringement case against Zimmer Biomet. He awarded Stryker $248.7 million.
