K2M CEO among leaders in 3-D printing for spinal implants, and isn't afraid of the competition: 4 key quotes

Spinal Tech

K2M CEO Eric Major discussed several key innovations and where the company is headed in the future during the first quarter conference call, according to a transcript in Seeking Alpha.

Here are four key quotes.

On future innovation: "Product innovation continues to be the core of our strategy to drive growth and capture market share and we could not be happier with the momentum we are seeing in 2018. As I shared on our last earnings call, we believe the last year may have been the most important year of product innovation in the history of the company; we anticipate that our impressive new product activity in 2017 will position us to drive above market growth again in 2018."

On Brainlab: "We continue to target a commercial launch in the second half of 2018. The engineering teams are working closely on the compatibility of K2M spinal systems and instrumentation with Brainlab's intraoperative imaging guided navigation and imaging platforms."

On 3-D printing: "3D printing is one of the hottest areas of spine implant innovation and K2M was the first leading spine company to market 3-D printed spinal implant. K2M now offers the most comprehensive portfolio of 3D printed spinal devices."

On competition: "We are aware of the increasing number of 3-D printed products from competitors. But given our market-leading position, five-plus years of R&D know-how and early commercial entry into the space, we believe we have the engineering and clinical expertise to continue to lead in the new frontier of 3D printed spinal technologies."
