Enrollment begins for study on Orthofix's RCStim device for rotator cuff repair — 5 insights

Spinal Tech

Enrollment started for a study testing Orthofix's RCStim device as an adjunctive treatment to surgically mending full thickness rotator cuff tears.

Here are five insights:

1. Researchers will assess whether pulsed electromagnetic field technology is able to decrease the rate of repaired tendons undergoing subsequent tears.

2. Additionally, the study will examine if a correlation exists between PEMF treatment and enhanced muscle strength, range of motion and decreased pain scores.

3. The study will include about 538 patients between the ages of 21 and 80, followed for 24 months post-treatment.

4. Up to 30 U.S. sites will participate in the study.

5. The RCStim is an investigational device.
