Smith & Nephew opens specialized operations center in Costa Rica: 4 highlights

Smith & Nephew opened its Global Business Services operation in Costa Rica, aimed at provided specialized shared services.

Here are four highlights:

 

1. Smith & Nephew invested $1.8 million in the GSB.

 

2. The new operation will provide non-invasive shared services for engineers and biologists to improve medical device manufacturing processes. hopes the new operations center will generate 150 new collaborations over the next two years.

 

3. This is Smith & Nephew’s first operation center. The company plans to look for Costa Rican talent for business administration, engineering, finance and biology staff.

 

4. Recently, Smith & Nephew also opened a manufacturing plant in Costa Rica. The company first started operating in Costa Rica in 2002.

 

Minister of Foreign Trade Alexander Mora said, “In the manufacturing sector, [Smith & Nephew] has positioned itself worldwide as a pioneer and innovator in the design of advanced medical devices. With operations in more than one hundred countries, Costa Rica has become a key location for Smith & Nephew. Its

manufacturing operations have recruited and trained more than a thousand Costa Rican employees, generating specialized skills and improving its positioning in the labor market.”
