$50M+ for consumer launch of Stimwave's opioid-free pain management implant: 3 things to know

Spinal Tech

Pompano Beach, Fla.-based medical device manufacturer Stimwave agreed to over $50 million in financing from undisclosed investors for its consumer launch of an opioid-free pain management microchip stimulator.

Here are three things to know about the device:

1. The Stimwave Freedom Stimulators uses an injectable microchip that sends small pulses of energy to electrodes near surrounding nerves. It is designed to trigger a reaction that allows the brain to remap specific pain signals, providing pain relief.

2. The wireless devices are the smallest neuromodulators available and contain no internal batteries. The device can be placed at any peripheral nerve throughout the body or in the nerve bundles of the spinal column.

3. The permanent implant is designed to be an alternative to opioid pain management. The system allows the patient to have a whole body 3T or 1.5 MRI without removing the implant.
