Barrow Neurological Institute & Aesculap to hold live neurosurgery course: 5 things to know

Phoenix-based Barrow Neurological Institute is collaborating with Aesculap to host a live neurosurgery course.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Aesculap Academy, the device company's continuing education division,will head this first-ever in the U.S. course with Barrow's neurosurgeons.

 

2. Michael T. Lawton, MD, Barrow president and CEO; neurosurgery department professor and chair; and neurovascular surgery chief will head the course. These four Barrow faculty members will also help lead the course:

 

● Andrew S. Little, MD, associate neurological surgery professor and surgical director of the Barrow Pituitary Center & Barrow Interdisciplinary Skull Base program
● Peter Nakaji, MD, professor and neurosurgery education chair; program director of the neurosurgery residency program; and director of the division of minimally invasive neurosurgery
● Randall Porter, MD, neurological surgery professor and director of the interdisciplinary skull base program
● Nader Sanai, MD, J.N. Harber Professor; director of the Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center; director of the division of neurosurgical oncology; and associate director of the neurosurgery residency program

 

3. The course will demonstrate approaches and microsurgical techniques during live operations on lesions.

 

4. The four-day course will encompass four to six surgeries daily.

 

5. Between the surgeries, professors will play microsurgical videos and talk about the cases.
