1st Titan Spine Endoskeleton cases performed in Australia: 4 insights

Spinal Tech

Titan Spine reported the first successful surgeries using its Endoskeleton interbody fusion devices and surface technology in Australia.

Here are four insights:

1. Richard Laherty, MBBS, of Queensland Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery, performed the first two anterior lumbar interbody fusions with the Endoskeleton technology at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

2. The company's line of Endoskeleton titanium implants includes proprietary surface technology at the macro, micro and cellular levels.

3. The technology's surface topographies encourage the "upregulation of osteogenic and angiogenic factors necessary for bone growth, encouraging natural production of bone morphogenetic proteins, downregulating inflammatory factors and creating the potential for a faster and more robust fusion."

4. Titan Spine earned Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration approval in 2014.
