Alphatec appoints former NuVasive executive as new executive chairman: 8 notes

Alphatec named Patrick Miles its new executive chairman and Quentin Blackford a new board member, effective Oct. 2.

Here are eight notes:

 

1. Mr. Miles will head Alphatec, with CEO Terry Rich reporting to him.

 

2. Mr. Miles and Mr. Blackford are making personal investments in the company's common stock, a combined total of $3.5 million-plus.

 

3. In his new role, Mr. Miles will define and implement Alphatec's strategic initiatives, strengthen relationships with surgeons and oversee the company's technology development.

 

4. Equipped with 25 years-plus of orthopedics and innovation experience, Mr. Miles has served as an inventor for nearly 100 industry patents.

 

5. Mr. Miles previously served at NuVasive for 17 years, most recently as the vice chairman. He also was the company's president and COO as well as the president of global products and services.

 

6. Mr. Blackford has 17 years of medical device industry experience, and currently serves as executive vice president and CFO of Dexcom.

 

7. Before Dexcom, Mr. Blackford served as EVP, CFO and head of strategy and corporate integrity at NuVasive.

 

8. Additionally, Alphatec's Chairman Mortimer Berkowitz III will now serve as lead director. Stephen O'Neil is resigning from his board member position.
