Steven Yang, MD, of BrizBrain and Spine in Australia became the first surgeon in the country to perform disc replacement surgery using AxioMed's visceolastic Freedom Lumbar Disc.
Here are five observations:
1. Dr. Yang completed the procedure on a patient suffering from degenerative disc disease with radiating pain as a result of a degenerative lumbar disc at level L5-S1.
2. AxioMed's disc is designed to restore natural motion in the spine through its visceolastic lateral lumbar technique.
3. Dr. Yang noted the system was easy to use and the compressible visceolastic core restored natural motion in the lumbar spine. His patient was pain free and discharged in two days.
