Berkeley Medical Center installs 1st Mazor X in West Virginia: 5 points

Martinsburg, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine's Berkeley Medical Center installed the state's first Mazor X, according to The Journal.

Here are five points:

 

1. The medical center installed the robotic surgical platform in its new Medicine Brain and Spine Center.

 

2. Surgeons performed the first spine surgery with the Mazor X Aug. 21.

 

3. John Caruso, MD, serves as the medical director of the Medicine Brain and Spine Center. Berkley Medical Center welcomed the neurosurgeon in early August in an effort to boost its neuroscience and neuromuscular offerings.

4. The Medicine Brain and Spine Center will soon encompass three neurosurgeons, one pain management-anesthesiologist and a physiatrist.

 

5. Dr. Caruso told The Journal that robotic spine fusion is set to become the standard of care.
