DePuy Synthes launched its Distal Radius Sterile Kit, a pre-sterilized, single-use kit of instruments and implants to treat wrist fractures.

Here are five takeaways:

1. The pre-sterilized kits help improve operating room efficiency, streamline procedures and eliminate sterilization costs.

2. The Distal Radius Sterile Kit is designed to eliminate more than 60 percent of steps associated with processing reusable kits.

3. With the rise in demand for wrist fracture surgery, surgeons are looking for solutions to reduce cost and minimize delays. Even10 minute surgical delays could cost a hospital more than $130,000 a year.

4. Each kit consists of one Variable Angle LCP Two-Column Volar Distal Radius Plate, a distribution of screws and the required instrumentation for the surgery.

5. An industry report cites the single-use kits may save approximately $285 per procedure for sterilization, transport and handling.
