Spinal Tech

Virginia's Reston Hospital Center has added the Mazor X system to its award-winning spinal surgery program, becoming to first hospital in the Mid-Atlantic to have the device, according to a report from The Connection.

Here are four things to know:

1. First unveiled in July 2016, the Mazor X system combines preoperative planning tools and analytics with intraoperative guidance.

2. The system uses a 3D surgical plan, analytics and a minimally invasive technique to complete the surgery while minimizing trauma to the body and expediting patients' return to function.

3. Virginia Spine Institute's Christopher Good, MD, Tom Schuler, MD, and Colin Haines, MD, performed the first Mazor X surgery in the Mid-Atlantic on February 1.

4. Dr. Good, who is also a spine surgeon at Reston Hospital Center, believes that "the new Mazor X system represents the future of robotic spine surgery while decreasing patient complications."
