Zimmer Biomet and Indo UK Institutes of Health announced plans for a multi-year collaboration.

Here are five key notes:

1. The collaboration aims to increase the capacity of India's healthcare infrastructure.

2. The first phase of the collaboration will include the Zimmer Biomet Institute of India, a 30,000-square-foot medical training and education facility. Zimmer Biomet plans on investing $5 million in this facility over three years, starting in 2017.

3. The facility aims to train more than 1,000 orthopedic surgeons per year on the latest orthopedic techniques and Zimmer Biomet technologies.

4. The Indo UK Institutes of Health, along with the United Kingdom's National Health Service, is also planning on establishing 11 "medicities" across India, which will include hospitals, medical schools and training centers.

5. Zimmer Biomet is expanding at a rapid pace, with numerous mergers and acquisitions. Earlier this week, the company announced plans to acquire majority stake in MedTech, a France-based company focused on the ROSA Robotic System for brain and spine surgery. In June, Zimmer Biomet announced its plans to acquire LDR for $1 billion.
