Robert F. McLain, MD, is now performing cervical disc replacement surgery using the Mobi-C implant at his private practice in Solon, Ohio, according to Cleveland 19 News.

Here are three insights:

1. The Mobi-C is inserted through the front of the neck to replace the damaged disc. The implant then rests in there, grows into the bone and eventually becomes part of the discs above and below it and allows motion and side bending, both front and back.

2. The procedure works best with younger, more active people whose injuries are relatively new.

3. Dr. McLain is affiliated with St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland. He earned his medical degree from the University of California Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento and completed his residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He also completed a fellowship at the University of California in Davis.
